FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

General Information

What is a custom-built fishing rod?

A custom rod is a one-of-a-kind, hand-built tool made specifically to your performance needs and aesthetic preferences, unlike mass-produced rods found in big-box stores.

Why should I choose a custom rod over a store-bought one?

Custom rods offer superior performance because they use components (blanks, guides, grips) tailored to your specific fishing style and target species. They are also precisely "spined" to maximize efficiency and strength.

What types of rods do you build?

I specialize in building custom rods for various applications, including saltwater inshore for tog, fluke, seabass, bonita, and stripers; all types of bass applications; steelhead; and fly rods.

The Customization Process

How do I start the custom build process?

The process begins with a detailed consultation where we discuss the rod's purpose, your preferred action, and your aesthetic choices like wrap colors and decals.

Can I choose specific components like guides and reel seats?

Yes. You can select every component, from high-performance Fuji Guides to specific handle materials like cork or carbon fiber.

Can you personalize the rod with my name or a logo?

Absolutely. Custom text, specialized decals, and unique thread wrap colors are common ways to personalize your build.

Ordering & Delivery

How long does it take to receive my custom rod?

Most custom builds are completed within 2–4 weeks, though timelines may vary during peak fishing seasons.

How much does a custom rod cost?

Pricing is transparent and based on the specific rod blank and components you select. I provide a firm quote before starting any work to ensure there are no hidden fees.  The average custom rods are $300-$500.

Do you offer a rush service?

Expedited builds may be available depending on current workload and design complexity. Please contact me directly to discuss your timeline.

Warranty & Care

Is there a warranty on my custom rod?

I provide a minimum 5-year warranty covering my workmanship and design. Additionally, most rod blanks and components are covered by their respective manufacturers' warranties.

How should I care for my custom rod?

Each rod comes with a care guide. Basic maintenance includes rinsing with fresh water after use (especially in saltwater) and storing it in a rod sock or tube to prevent damage.
